What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide and is characterized by intrusive, distressing thoughts (obsessions) that compel individuals to engage in repetitive behaviors or mental rituals (compulsions) in an attempt to alleviate the anxiety associated with these thoughts. These obsessions can range from fears of contamination to concerns about harm befalling loved ones, and the compulsions may manifest as rituals like washing, checking, or counting. Living with OCD can be emotionally draining, and it often interferes with daily activities, relationships, and overall well-being.
In our practice, we understand that the journey to managing OCD involves more than just symptom reduction; it’s about fostering a supportive therapeutic relationship where individuals can explore the roots of their obsessions and compulsions. By using evidence-based therapeutic techniques, we work collaboratively with our clients to develop personalized strategies for coping with distressing thoughts and breaking free from the cycle of compulsive behaviors. We empower individuals on the path to overcoming OCD; our specialized expertise is here to provide the support and understanding needed for positive change.

What the Therapy Process Looks Like
A full treatment plan for anxiety or OCD is comprised of these four parts:
1
Intake Session
The initial 1-2 sessions seek to confirm the OCD diagnosis along with the specific patterns of obsessions and compulsions relevant for you. We also assess for any other mental health diagnoses to ensure that ERP is the most sensible starting point for your treatment.
2
Treatment Plan & Therapy
After confirming the OCD diagnosis and collaboratively deciding on ERP as the best treatment approach, sessions will focus on providing you with an understanding of the manner in which compulsions prevent relief in the anxiety underlying your obsessissional thoughts. By developing a clear understanding of your OCD you will able to implement the skills used in coming sessions most effectively.
3
Family Session
It can be difficult for family members to provide support and validation without contributing to the viscious cycle of obsessions and compulsions. As a final component to the educational sessions, treatment will often include a family session to help your loved ones understand how to provide support in a manner which does not fuel unwanted patterns.
4
Exposure Sessions
Once you feel prepared to implement the skills discussed during the initial sessions, you are ready for the exposure phase of treatment. The goal of this phase of treatment is to teach you how to experience intrusive thoughts in a manner which does not require the same level of energy and mental bandwidth. This portion of treatment involves exercises to be completed between sessions to ensure that you are getting enough "reps" to enhance your ability to deal with intrusive thoughts.
